Whales
Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s best places to see humpback whales in Banderas Bay.
Each winter, the waters of Banderas Bay become the temporary home of magnificent humpback whales. From December through March, these gentle giants arrive in the warm Pacific waters to court, give birth, and care for their young—creating one of the region’s most unforgettable natural spectacles.

During whale season, from December through March, Verana guests are invited to a weekly screening of Whale Nation, the acclaimed documentary by filmmaker Jean-Albert Lièvre.
For Verana, the screening carries a personal connection: director Jean-Albert Lièvre is a member of our Verana family
Presented on the evening before each scheduled Verana whale-watching expedition, the film offers a beautiful introduction to the extraordinary world of whales—their intelligence, communication, social lives, and relationship with the ocean.
